Figurative Pendant

Origin: Nok Culture, Nigeria
Composition: terracotta

The piece has a hole drilled through the back, below the beaded necklace. It is almost certainly designed to have been worn as an amulet, probably by a priest or someone with similarly spiritual or magical powers. A figure shown wearing such amulets can be seen here.

This piece was thermoluminescence tested by Alliance Science Art (Paris), and found to be authentic, having been fired (created) between 303 B.C. and 97 A.D.

Please contact us if you have any questions about this piece at (415) 362-6601 or info@sujaro.com.
